eID tagging requirements

Sheep and farmed goats born before 1 January 2025 do not need an eID tag if sold or processed before 1 January 2027 - An NLIS-accredited visual tag will satisfy NLIS requirements for these animals.
ā˜ļø Stock being kept past 1 January 2027 can be voluntarily identified with eID tags prior to 1 January 2025.
šŸ—“ļø Sheep and farmed goats born on or after 1 January 2025 will need to be identified with an NLIS-accredited eID tag before leaving their property of birth.
šŸ—“ļø From 1 January 2027, all other sheep and farmed goats leaving a property must be identified with an NLIS-accredited eID tag.

Opportunities for producers

Novel feed strategies to improve twin-lamb survival

SARDI research farm trials have shown promising results feeding rumen-protected arginine (RP-ARG) to pregnant ewes to increase twin-lamb survival rates to weaning. 

SARDI are seeking commercial Merino producers to be involved in an on-farm validation trial.
